Abstract Scope |
Hydrogen shaft furnace to produce direct reduced iron (DRI) have gained widespread attention and will provide opportunities to cut CO2 emissions for iron and steel manufacturing. This talk will present a low-emission ironmaking pathway where pre-reduction of lump iron ore is obtained through the shaft furnace with hydrogen injection, providing the feedstocks with a high metallization rate for the blast furnace ironmaking. In our study, a multi-physics CFD-DEM model was developed to simulate the fundamental science within the pre-reduction process of iron ores. The influence of the hydrogen gas flow, the ratio of lump ore and pellets, and the size ratio were investigated. This work provides the fundamental knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of hydrogen reduction processes for lump iron ores, which also fills the knowledge gaps that will fundamentally contribute to the development of future carbonless iron and steel production by hydrogen ironmaking. |
