Abstract Scope |
Size effects in thin films typically arise from competitions in length scales or competitions in energies. In the latter case specifically the competition between surface or interface energies and volume energies directly results in a length scale. This will be illustrated by the examples of texture development in thin films, dewetting as well as phase separation. The phase separation will be related to optical properties whereas the challenges of measuring mechanical properties will be addressed by optical reflectance anisotropy spectroscopy. |
