Abstract Scope |
Traditionally, slicing software has been isolated from the actual construction of the object. The slicer is used prior to the print to pre-plan the pathing for the object which is subsequently provided to the printer in its entirety. This process cannot accurately capture the complexity of additive manufacturing (AM) processes which has led to the development of real-time sensor feedback for example. With the advent of such capabilities, there is a desire to involve the slicer in the construction process.
To support this new slicing paradigm, there is a requirement for standardization and modularization of slicing components that are typically unique to a given implementation. By developing such a capability, the slicing process will be able to operate in tandem with yet agnostic to underlying construction processes. This opens the possibility to develop unique front-end interaction modalities, control mechanisms, and slicing customizations as an example. |
