Abstract Scope |
Of critical interest to the fusion materials community are the thermal and mechanical properties of reactor components. A facility for the investigation of both radiation- and plasma-materials interaction is demonstrated with tungsten. The facility couples a 1.7 MV tandem ion-accelerator with a linear helicon plasma chamber and a device for the production of on-sample transient gratings for in-situ thermal diffusivity and surface acoustic wave analysis. To study the effect of plasma-material interaction and irradiation damage, initial data using tungsten are presented, exhibiting fuzz growth under helium plasma exposure and changes in thermal properties under 10.2 MeV self-ion irradiation up to 7.9 dpa. |
