Abstract Scope Soft metals, in thin film form as a coating, such as Gold, Silver, and Copper have been used as solid lubricants. But due to high production cost as well as processability, new thin film lubricants are sought. Graphite and its derivatives, such as graphene are attractive alternatives to soft metals. There has been a lot of research on graphene's lubrication properties since its discovery in 2004. As an additive for various oils and liquids, graphene has been found to enhance lubrication (reduce friction) and decrease wear. These kinds of materials function by efficient dispersion of the load due to weak interlayer forces which help in better lubrication. In this work, we attempt the preparation of nanoscrolls films) based on graphene oxide with in-situ titanium dioxide. The titanium dioxide not only helps in the lubrication process but also provides better adhesion to the substrates. The nanoscrolls were prepared using the freeze-drying method followed by drop casting on the target substrate.
