Abstract Scope Exhaled human breath consists of a mixture of many gases. Acetone gas is an essential biomarker and measuring its concentrations in human breath can enable us to identify several diseases. Here, a novel breath sensor was designed to detect the acetone. The fabricated sensors were prepared in different steps: (1) Ag thin films were deposited onto the surface of interdigitated electrodes(IDE) through DC sputtering, (2) the films were converted into nanoparticles using post annealing treatment, (3) V2O5 thin films were deposited into the surface of the Ag by sputtering, (4)Au thin films were deposited into V2O5 via sputtering, finally (5) Au thin films were converted into nanoparticles by post annealing treatment. Different advanced chemical and physical techniques such as Raman, XRD,UV-Vis, AFM, and XPS were used to characterize the fabricated materials. The results obtained showed a high-performance response in term of the sensitivity, long-term stability(45 days), repeatability and high selectivity.
