Abstract Scope Metal corrosion is undoubtedly one of the most challenging problems industries face. Metal surfaces can be protected by adding corrosion inhibitors. Environmental concerns and the toxicity of industrial organic corrosion inhibitors are constantly forcing researchers to explore acceptable alternatives. This study focused on inhibitor extracts using green ingredients as source to mitigate corrosion in pipeline steels in produced water environments. The results from the polarization studies show that the corrosion current density decreased from 16 µA/cm2 (for the sample submerged in the blank solution) to 2.47 µA/cm2 when 1000 ppm of inhibitor dosage was added to the produced water solution. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis, and SEM surface analyses also supported the findings that adding green inhibitor extract can reduce metal corrosion by adsorption on the metal surface.
