Abstract Scope |
In this work, we utilized combinatorial experiments that allow rapid and systematic characterizations of composition-microstructure-dependent irradiation damage behaviors of nanostructured tungsten (thin film) alloys. The combinatorial materials libraries of W-Re, W-Ta, and W-Re-Ta alloys were synthesized through magnetron sputtering, followed by the high-throughput experiments for probing He-ion irradiation damages on the mechanical, thermal, and structural properties of the alloys. This efficient approach allows rapid discovery of the composition ranges of the nanostructured alloys with excellent damage tolerance. First-principles calculations revealed that the formation and distribution of He clusters can be significantly altered by the addition of Ta and Re, which play a critical role in property changes upon irradiation. |
