Abstract Scope |
NiCoCr is a single-phase multicomponent alloy system - occasionally referred to in literature as a ‘Medium Entropy Alloy’ (MEA) - noted for its strength, ductility, high wear resistance and radiation damage suppression properties. It is believed that the impressive mechanical capabilities of NiCoCr are attributable to some degree of chemical short-range order (CSRO/SRO), though such claims have been historically difficult to validate. To determine the nature of SRO in Ni37.5 Co37.5 Cr25 at.%, a neutron total scattering experiment was performed to cryogenic temperatures at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. Combining Bragg and Pair Distribution Function (PDF) analyses with a Reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) fitting regime, a large-box atomic modelling approach has been used to determine the local ordering in this alloy of interest. |
