Abstract Scope |
This presentation introduces a model for laser cladding developed and validated at the CCWJ. This model is based on an understanding of heat transfer in the substrate and of catchment efficiency. The heat transfer model assumes that convective currents in the multiphase fluid in the weld pool are negligible, and that the heat transfer in the solid occurs on a semi-infinite solid under a heat source of gaussian distribution. The model of catchment accounts for the amount of powder that falls into the weld pool and outside it. The model is validated with 13 experiments with a 6 kW CO2 laser on 4145 substrate. The relevance of this model is that it involves no discretization, and presents no convergence problems. It can also be implemented in tools of common access to practitioners such as MS Excel. |
