To understand the effect of refractories on the cleanliness of the steel during continuous casting, refractory samples were collected at different locations in the tundish refractory system. The contact behavior of different refractories (Gunning mixes, Dry masses, and Castable) with a heavy-rail steel U75V at 1873 K was investigated by laboratory experiments. The results showed that: Gunning mixes and Castable refractories leaded to an increase of dissolved Al in the steel as well as Al2O3 content in the inclusions, while the Dry masses refractories leaded to translations of the inclusions from high melting point CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3 to low melting point Al2O3-SiO2-MnO. As for continuous casting progress, high MgO alumina-magnesia refractories was recommended, but high Al2O3 refractories should be avoided. |
