Abstract Scope |
Dry sand rubber wheel test apparatus (ASTM G65 test procedure) is widely used in industry and laboratories to evaluate wear resistance of materials. This apparatus has been used to conduct three-body abrasive wear test of carbide free bainitic steel. Different loads are chosen for the abrasion test and rounded quartz sand is used as the abrasive. The influence of retained austenite and its mechanical stability in carbide free bainitic steel is investigated in the present study. The surface morphology of the worn surface and microstructural change in proximity of it have been studied. The deformation of microstructure along the depth from the wear surface is studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro-hardness measurements. It has also been examined that the wear mechanism changed by changing the loading conditions. |
