Abstract Scope |
The unique combination of high penetration power and extensive reciprocal space coverage makes high-energy X-ray (50~120keV) an invaluable tool for studying material behavior non-destructively and in-situ. This presentation focuses on recent advancements in using high-energy synchrotron X-ray techniques at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) for characterizing additive manufacturing processes and materials. It will cover the sample environments and detectors at APS, highlighting the types of information that can be obtained and discussing their limitations in detail. Furthermore, with the completion of the APS-U project, the high-energy X-ray at APS is set to experience a remarkable ten-fold increase in flux and a reduction in emittance. This upgrade also entails new developments and enhancements in instruments, including sample environments, detectors, and X-ray optics that take advantage of the new X-ray source. These advancements open up unprecedented opportunities for the additive manufacturing community, enabling exploration of previously unattainable time and space territories. |
