Abstract Scope |
Silicon is not known to be an efficient light emitter due its inherent indirect bandgap. Czochralski silicon (CZ-Si) is even less known to emit light at the bandgap because of the high oxygen impurities content that are known to inhibit discernable radiative recombination at the bandgap. In this work, we will present methodologies to enhance the bandgap emission from ordinary low-doped Cz-Si by passivating the surface with thermal oxidation and by interfacing Cz-Si with sol-gel based silica coatings. The presentation will also cover interesting and never published data on recombination lifetimes of p-type and n-type as function of surface coating including the influence of the number of flashes used on lifetime. The work will discuss the types of radiative recombination, absorptivity deconvoluted from photoluminescence spectra and will discuss excitation pumping power effect on emission spectra. |
