Abstract Scope |
Although plasma spraying technologies have been used in materials engineering for decades, they hold some limitations related to the use of ultra-fine powders as feedstock materials. Hence, the idea of Suspension Plasma Spraying (SPS) was developed. SPS enables the use of nanopowders and coatings obtained in this process are characterized by thicknesses up to a few micrometers, high porosity, or density. These features, in turn, opened the way for their use in medical and clinical applications. In this work, the attempts to the formation of metal oxide nanopowder-based coatings on steel and glass substrates with the use of SPS technology will be presented. Suspensions of bioactive nanopowders: copper oxide and its composites (with i.a. ZnO, TiO2, or graphene) will be used as feedstock materials. Coatings will be characterized for chemical and phase composition as well as chosen physical properties. Moreover, in further research, the antimicrobial properties will be investigated. |
