Abstract Scope Aluminum alloy A206 (Al-4.3Cu-0.3Mn-0.25Mg-0.2Ti) is characterized by its lightweight, high strength, and high fracture toughness, making it an ideal structural material for aircraft and vehicles. However, its widespread applications are limited due to its high susceptibility to corrosion under the peak aged (T6) heat treatment condition. This study aims to promote the mechanical and anti-corrosion performance of A206 by microalloying transition metals of Zr and Sc (0.5 and 1 wt.%). In this work, the microstructure, tensile properties, and corrosion behavior of A206-Zr/-Sc alloy in T6 treatment were investigated and correlated. The mechanical performance and overall corrosion behavior of A206 were improved with the addition of Zr and Sc. The detailed electron microscopy characterization revealed the underlying strengthening mechanisms and benefits of Zr-/Sc-involved phases to comprehensively interpret the tensile test, electrochemical impedance scanning, and slow strain rate test results.
