Abstract Scope The bespoke microstructure solidification model TESA has been intimately coupled to a Finite Volume Structural Mechanics solver by using the derived displacements to alter the preferential growth orientation of the dendrites. This is a parallel three-dimensional modelling framework which can also simulate fluid flow and electromagnetism, allow for complex multi-physics microstructure solidification problems to be modelled on an industrially relevant scale. Structural mechanics at the dendritic scale is a significant factor in the formation of many undesirable features as well as outright effects which can ruin the macroscopic material properties of metal parts, however the interaction of structural mechanics with the solidification process has been largely overlooked within existing numerical modelling. Large scale simulations incorporating structural mechanics and fluid flow have been run which provide a qualitative match to experimental work, these results are contrasted with baseline cases lacking these physics which are unable to capture these behaviours.
