Abstract Scope This study focuses on the influence of unintended porous defects in casting metal parts. These defects can have a significant effect on the final product's mechanical properties, resulting in reduced stiffness, strength, and toughness. Representative volume element (RVE) models have been developed to represent the microstructure of the product part. These models incorporate various pore conditions to simulate different defect scenarios. The RVE models are subjected to virtual mechanical tests such as tension, compression, and bending, allowing for the prediction of stress-strain behavior with different pore configurations. The computational predictions obtained through micromechanical analysis are then compared with experimental results. This comparative analysis serves as a validation step, assessing the accuracy and reliability of the developed computational model. The findings demonstrate a strong agreement between the micromechanical predictions and experimental data, indicating the effectiveness of the model in capturing the mechanical behavior of the casting products under various pore conditions.
