Presentation Title Mechanical Response and Microstructure Evolution of the Coarse-grained Matrix in Gradient Structure Cu Alloys

Abstract Scope Gradient-structured (GS) design in metallic materials have been reported to obtain superior mechanical properties due to the interaction between GS layer and coarse-grained (CG) matrix. In this study, we prepared GS Cu-4.5Al alloys and explored hardening behavior of CG matrix at the specified pre-strain. It was found that extra strengthening at the interface of GS layers and CG matrix in CG matrix was observed and gradually decreased with increasing pre-strain due to the reduced interactions of GS layers and CG matrix. Thus, higher yield strength was obtained in CG matrix sample with GS layer constraint at pre-strain. In addition, Microstructural observation at the interface of GS layer and CG layer revealed that dislocations, stacking faults (SFs), primary twins and intersected twins were activated sequentially in the CG matrix with GS constraint at the pre-strain stage, and occur earlier than that of the CG matrix without GS constraint.
