Presentation Title C-36: Temperature Dependence of Deformation Behavior of Ultrafine-Grained Commercial Purity Titanium

Abstract Scope Temperature dependence of deformation behavior of the ultrafine-grained commercially pure titanium with an average grain size of 0.8 µm was investigated. The specimens were prepared by thermomechanical treatment, including multi-directional forging and cold rolling. Tensile tests were performed at 77 K and room temperature. The strength-ductility balance was significantly improved with lowering deformation temperature, while the activated slip systems showed no obvious temperature dependence. Precise observations revealed dense mechanical twinning at 77 K, while not at room temperature. Therefore, the drastic improvement of the strength-ductility balance at low temperature is attributed to the twinning-induced plasticity effect.
