Abstract Scope For over 150 years, engineering professional societies in the US have been facilitating career advancement. They allow you to connect with other experts across the world. In Society-organized conferences, you can learn about the advances in the field, share your own unique contributions, and get feedback from experts. Networking and one-on-one engagement with prospective employers, collaborators, and colleagues at other institutions can facilitate career transitions. Beyond in-person interactins, the publications facilitated by professional societies allow you to create indelible contributions to the field. Societies also provide volunteer engagement opportunities, ranging from technical committees to symposium organization to serving on editorial boards – where you can influence the direction of the field while simultaneously gaining leadership experience. And finally, Societies offer awards at various levels from student and early career awards to pinnacle awards – these can validate your own contributions or help you recognize the contributions of others.
