Abstract Scope |
The trend towards globalisation in recent decades makes it more likely than ever that the current generation will study or work internationally from their home country or in highly international environments. Increasing diversity has been shown to improve productivity and create more successful ideas the world over, but on an individual level, there can be a cost to this global style of working in terms of the challenges of navigating interactions between people with different cultural expectations, frequent relocation, and cultural isolation. International teamworking skills are rarely actively developed, and culture clashes can make navigating a global environment challenging or awkward for both majority and minority groups. This talk addresses some factors that affect the experience in and effectiveness of an international environment, such as bias, inclusivity, effective communication, and mental health, and provides some concrete strategies to navigate the social and professional dynamics of global workspaces. |
