Presentation Title Effect of Wettability on Penetration and Flotation Behavior of a Particle in Refining Process

Abstract Scope In the steelmaking process, powder blasting technology is often performed for desulfurization of molten steel. It is well-known that the detention time of blasted powder in the molten steel largely affect the desulfurization efficiency. Therefore, water model experiment, in which a single particle was blasted onto water surface, was performed to investigate the behavior of the blasted particle by using a high-speed camera. In the moment of the immersion of the particle into the water, air column was accompanied and a residual bubble was remained on the particle after rupture of the air column. The poorly wetted particle immediately floated on the water surface because of shallow penetration depth and large residual bubble size. It has been also clarified that the diameter of the bubble increased with the contact angle. It is because that the adhesion point of the air column on the particle changes toward to the penetrating direction.
