Presentation Title Dynamic Imaging of Fast Processes Using Laboratory X-ray Computed Tomography

Abstract Scope The non-destructive nature of 3D X-ray tomography enables it to follow processes over time. Using time-lapse approaches all X-ray tomography devices can follow slow processes, but in the event of very fast processes, synchrotron facilities are typically used to perform dynamic CT measurements. We show how new developments in both hardware and software enable researchers to perform these dynamic experiments in their own laboratory. Experiments such as mechanical testing of metals and polymers, particle tracking in opaque flows or dissolution of pharmaceutical materials can be investigated at both high spatial and high temporal resolution, in full 3D. We show examples of how such experiments can be observed and analyzed using scan speeds for a full tomogram of just a few seconds, over many hundreds of tomograms, providing true 4D information in an easy and intuitive way.
