Abstract Scope |
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is currently building the Sample Preparation laboratory (SPL), a new hot cell facility in support of post-irradiation examination of reactor structural materials. In conjunction with the Irradiated Materials Characterization Laboratory (IMCL), these two facilities will offer engineering through atomic scale characterization of irradiated structural materials as well as being a user facility to allow for ease of collaboration with outside entities. The combined capabilities of SPL and IMCL will enable comprehensive investigations into microstructural changes, mechanical properties, and degradation mechanisms of reactor structural materials that are needed for extending the lifetime for the current fleet of reactors while providing the required information to qualify new materials in support of advanced reactors. Projected and current capabilities will be presented with examples of obtained results from these capabilities. |
