Abstract Scope |
The Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) has multiple operating nuclear reactors. We will discuss the reactor within the Hot Fuels Examination Facility (HFEF) and the Transient Reactor Test Facility (TREAT). These reactors provide neutron beams with which we perform Digital Neutron Imaging, and Neutron Radiography. These experiments provide our research staff with data at the Angstrom (Ǻ) level (E-10), or an order-of-magnitude deeper investigation than normal spectroscopy (E-09) or x-rays due to the deeper penetrating power of neutrons. This presentation will provide examples of research performed and the benefits provided in the selection of materials used in nuclear power. |
