Abstract Scope |
The capabilities of the Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Hot Fuels Examination Facility (HFEF) and Irradiated Materials Characterization Laboratory (IMCL) in post-irradiation examination and testing of advanced nuclear fuels are world leading. These facilities bridge the gap between engineering-scale analysis and sub-microscopic characterization, providing valuable insights into fuel behavior and degradation mechanisms. These two facilities enable researchers to analyze fuel behavior at various scales, from macroscopic to sub-microscopic levels. This holistic approach contributes to fuel design, optimization, and safety assessments. The presentation showcases case studies that demonstrate the successful application of INL's advanced fuel examination capabilities. These studies highlight the impact of these techniques on improving fuel reliability, safety, and efficiency, thereby advancing the development of sustainable and advanced nuclear energy technologies. |
