Abstract Scope |
Silver nanowires (NWs) has a wide range of applications in nanomechanical devices and many other technological applications due to its high mechanical strength as well as high electrical and thermal conductivity. Understanding the mechanical properties of Ag NWs is of importance to the enhancement of its functionality and reliability of its applications. There have been many studies recently on the properties of Ag NWs through experiments and MD modeling. Due to the length-scale limitation, a fully atomistic model usually can only simulate NWs with much smaller diameter and length as compared to experiment samples. In contrast, starting from the principles of statistical mechanics, our concurrent atomistic-continuum (CAC) approach can simulate models that are comparable to experiments and bridge the gap between experiment and MD simulations. In this talk, we will present our recent development of an adaptive CAC for investigating the deformation behavior of AgNWs. |
