Capitalizing on advances in data science, machine learning (ML) is revolutionizing technologies from self-driving vehicles to medical imaging. With its ability to interpret a high-dimensional data stream, it is no surprise that ML offers promising opportunities for industrial applications. In this presentation, we will discuss various roles for MI using case studies that involve computer science approaches such as computer vision, data science, and machine learning applied to materials science and engineering objectives. Using these examples, we will compare ML methods including deep learning and discuss issues such as interpretability, data size and quality, and model supervision. |
