Abstract Scope |
Since 2014 the domestic metalcasting community has benefited from three America Makes projects and two State of Ohio applied research projects which demonstrated the value of printed tooling for metalcasting. The net result was accelerated technology integration of additive manufacturing into a low margin U.S. manufacturing sector. The lessons learned from these multiple efforts are worth examining as more metals technologies develop and the collective R&D community develops transition strategies to facilitate forward movement from labs to industry. During this presentation focused discussion will include lessons learned from printed sand tooling. Presentation topics include key aspects of transition planning: focusing on the global competitive advantage the technology provides; assessing the technology challenges; establishing a technology transition plan; stakeholder engagement to include industry, academia and non profit partners who will accelerate transition into the small and medium manufactures comprising the the bulk of U.S. manufacturing capability. |
