Abstract Scope |
We report Ti concentration measurements in dilute Al-Ti-B alloys, acquired from direct chemical analysis of the molten metal by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). By LIBS is possible to analyze the influence of B addition on the Ti concentration of the melt. After the addition of B, the Ti concentration slowly evolves due to the formation of TiB2. The formation kinetics of TiB2 are influenced by the Ti/B weight ratio and the mixing temperature. LIBS measurements enable the real-time study of the formation kinetics of TiB2 and how the formation is influenced by several parameters, such as the melt temperature and concentration of elements. |
