Abstract Scope |
Additively manufactured (AM) alloys have widespread industrial applications. Here we show that additive manufacturing is capable of producing fully dense Haynes 230 alloys and 718 Ni alloys with nanoscale precipitates. In the Haynes 230 alloys, scanning electron microscopy studies revealed arrays of carbide nanoprecipitates along dislocation cell walls. Transmission electron microscopy studies revealed orientation relationships between carbide nanoprecipitates and the matrix. In parallel, oxide nanoprecipitates were introduced in the 718 Ni alloys. In situ tension studies showed the oxide nanoprecipitates are crucial to achieve enhanced high temperature mechanical properties of the alloys. These carbide and oxide nanoprecipitates also changed the deformation mechanisms of the AM Ni alloys. This study suggests that additive manufacturing may open a new avenue to produce advanced Ni alloys with nanoprecipitates for applications in extreme evironments. |
