Abstract Scope |
Additive manufacturing (AM) in magnesium alloys has been constrained by problems regarding powder reactivity, sublimation, ignition, and evaporation. This study aims to provide a comprehensive characterization of the crystal structure and phases present in different magnesium alloy powders, which serve as starting raw material for AM-based object printing. Neutron diffraction (ND) experiments were carried out during in situ melting and solidification of the raw material powders in order to reproduce conditions similar to those of AM processing. For this propose ILL D1B facility was used. In situ thermodiffraction was conducted up to 650 ºC, with diffractograms collected at intervals of 50 ºC followed by rapid cooling. Moreover, Residual Stresses have been evaluated in magnesium cylinders fabricated using a Selective Laser Melting technique at different conditions. Comprehensive characterization of the systems was also performed using laboratory X-ray, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques. |
