Abstract Scope |
This study focuses on investigating the microstructural and textural evolutions of a 316L stainless steel alloy fabricated using the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process with different scan strategies. Three scan strategies, namely continuous, stripe, and chessboard, were considered, with a rotation angle of 67º per layer and a constant input energy. The results revealed significant differences in the melt pool dimensions, and cellular structures. The printed sample using the continuous strategy has demonstrated a wider melt pool and a larger cell spacing compared to the chessboard and stripe strategies. Texture analysis indicated that the continuous strategy resulted in a dominant Goss {112}<110> texture component, whereas the stripe strategies produced a dominant Brass {001}<110> texture component. Moreover, the hardness of the LPBF 316L alloy using the continuous scan strategy was significantly higher compared to the stripe strategy, which can be attributed to the finer features and texture components. |
