Abstract Scope |
The presence of lattice dislocations in high angle random grain boundaries in FCC polycrystals was studied using large-scale molecular dynamics modeling and the dislocation extraction algorithm for detecting dislocations. This method shows that a large fraction of the boundaries studied contained lattice dislocations as part of their structure. The observed dislocation content varied widely depending on the boundary's specific geometrical parameters. These results are discussed in the context of the multiplicity of possible grain boundary structures for the same boundary and their implications for the deformation response of polycrystalline materials. |
