Abstract Scope |
Ecological Artificial Marble, (EAM) was produced from waste Natural dolomitic marble (NDM) and Castor oil-derived polyurethane resin (COR) employing Vacuum vibro-compression technology. The EAM samples were characterized by physical, thermal, and mechanical analysis. It presented 2.20 ± 0.05 g/cm3 of apparent density, 0.14 ± 0.03% of apparent porosity and 0.06 ± 0.01% of water absorption. The curing process applied to the COR provided adequate physical and mechanical properties with maximum tension of rupture of 21.54 ± 1.15MPa in flexural strength and 70.39 ± 2.91MPa in compressive strength. The results yielded better physical properties for the EAM when compared to NDM, and in some cases better than the artificial industrial marble (AIM).
The EAM manufacturing added value to the marble waste, reduce the negative environmental impacts attached to them and make it an ecological and technically viable alternative that could be attend the construction industry. |
