Abstract Scope Many of the carbon-containing high-Mn austenitic steels exhibit serration behavior during tensile deformation. The serration behavior is known to arise from dynamic interaction between dislocations and solute atoms, and it is called as dynamic strain aging (DSA). Studies on serration behavior have mainly been focused on deformation condition such as temperature and applied strain rate, and the effect of grain size on serration behavior has rarely been discussed. In the present study, 22Mn-0.6C steels having fully recrystallized microstructures with various mean grain sizes were produced through 4 cycles of the rolling and annealing treatment. Serration behavior was significantly suppressed during the tensile deformation of the ultrafine-grained (UFG) specimens. The in-situ synchrotron XRD measurement and digital image correlation (DIC) technique were applied simultaneously during the tensile tests, to understand the change in the local strain-hardening behavior of the various-grain sized specimens. Detailed results will be shown and discussed in the presentation.
