Abstract Scope |
The ability to integrate electronics into soft and stretchable materials can create bioelectronics that better interface with the human body. However, such integration remains challenging and requires microfabrication processes. Here, we propose a 3D printing approach that can create freeform electronics by selectively annealing micro-extruded nanomaterials in situ using a metamaterials-inspired electromagnetic architecture. We demonstrate the creation of microscale freeform three-dimensional interconnects and electronics, enabling the integration of active components into a soft substrate with a desktop-sized platform. Ultimately, by studying soft matter physics phenomena, we are developing electronics integration strategies broad range of soft materials to enable new classes of 3D-printed electronics. |
