Abstract Scope MnTe, a polymorph material, has a stable phase of a NiAs-type structure at room temperature (α) and a high-temperature phase of a wurtzite-type structure (β). Recently, Cr doped MnTe has attracted considerable interests due to its magnetic and thermoelectric properties. In this study, we investigated a composition dependence of electrical properties of Cr-Mn-Te film by radio-frequency magnetron co-sputtering. We found that the metastable β-CrxMn1-xTe film was obtained by the sputtering deposition technique at room temperature. A resistivity of as-deposited β-CrxMn1-xTe decreased with increasing x. Furthermore, it was revealed that there are specific compositions showing phase change behavior from β-CrxMn1-xTe to α-CrxMn1-xTe without any phase separation. Interestingly, this temperature-dependent change in crystal structure also led to changes in electrical and optical properties. These results can be expected to broaden many studies that have been limited to α-CrMnTe.(This work was supported by National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan. No.03701)
