Abstract Scope |
We report on our study of numerical models developed to simulate the magnetic cooling efficiency of various magnetic materials in an active refrigeration cycle. Magnetocaloric materials open possibilities for using magnetic materials for refrigeration applications that could potentially replace conventional refrigeration devices relying on compression/expansion of ozone depleting gases. Because the temperature increases associated with the magnetocaloric effect goes through a maximum near the Curie Temperatures (TC), temperature at which magnetic materials lose their magnetic properties, magnetic materials with their TC’s near room temperature are of primary interest for this application. We will report on our assessment of the most promising magnetic refrigerants developed to date for their efficiency in an active magnetic refrigeration cycle. Gd based, LaFe and Mn based refrigerants are a few examples that will be investigated. |
