Abstract Scope |
We will present diverse thermal processes applied to enhance the mechanical properties of cold sprayed AA7050 material. Despite the promising results of the cold spray deposition process for repair applications of Al alloy components, it is still challenging to achieve mechanical properties comparable to wrought materials. In this work, as-atomized and solutionized AA7050 powders were cold sprayed. The powder heat treatment enhanced the ductility of the material by dissolving the intermetallic network present in the as-atomized powders. As a second thermal approach, a series of post-deposition heat-treatments were performed to artificially age the cold sprayed AA7050 material. This approach produced material with comparable microhardness to its wrought counterpart. Lastly, a laser source is being applied to induce an in-situ heat treatment to cold sprayed AA7050. Detailed electron microscopy will be presented to correlate strength and ductility with the evolution of the micro and nanostructure of the cold sprayed materials. |
