Abstract Scope |
Design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) is process dependent, where each AM technology possesses its unique set of design rules. A thorough understanding of these rules and the AM lifecycle is necessary to produce successful components in any field. We present various designs of additively manufactured C103 propulsion components based on the selected printing technology and how these compare to traditional manufacturing methods. Designs for both Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L – PBF) and Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (LP – DED) are discussed along with their associated DfAM rules. Necessary post processing techniques are highlighted including heat treatments, non – destructive evaluation, and coating. |
