Abstract Scope |
Atom probe tomography (APT) is a powerful microanalytical technique capable of reconstructing the 3D position and chemical identity of millions of atoms from a material specimen with sub-nm spatial resolution. Latent crystallographic information is often contained within the data, and is valuable for spatially calibrating reconstructions, as well as directly measuring crystallographic relationships fundamental to understanding structure–property relationships in crystalline materials. However, challenges remain in observing crystallographic information in APT data due to the variability in signal strength across datasets, and a lack of sophisticated yet user-friendly analysis tools. This presentation reports on recent advances to address these challenges. Techniques to enhance the contrast of pole and zone-line features across the detector space, quantify elemental site-occupancy behavior in ordered intermetallic alloys, and crystallographically characterize interfaces will be presented on a range of important engineering material case studies. |
