Abstract Scope |
The effect of incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) as reinforcement on the mechanical and tribological properties of Inconel 718 alloys is presented. Inconel 718-GNP metal matrix composites (MMCs) with different GNP concentrations were prepared using high-energy ball milling and spark plasma sintering. Microstructural investigation and study of underlying mechanisms behind Inconel 718 and GNP interaction were performed using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)/energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The uniform dispersion and grain refinement effect of GNP in the Inconel 718 matrix was observed. Microhardness measurements, tensile testing, and wear testing were performed on Inconel 718-GNP MMCs, which revealed increased microhardness, enhanced yield strength, and reduced coefficient of friction. This research aims to advance the development of MMCs reinforced with GNP and expand their potential applications. |
