Abstract Scope |
The influence of powder quality is critical to the subsequent microstructural and mechanical properties development in powder sintering of Oxide Dispersion Strengthened (ODS) Steels powders using Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIPping). Two high chromium (20wt.%) ODS PM2000 steel batches were produced through two different powder manufacturing routes: the typical gas atomisation (GA) and mechanical alloying (MA) and the other by vacuum inert gas atomisation (VIGA) and gas atomisation reactive synthesis (GARS). These two ODS powders were subsequently consolidated using HIPping. Characterisation focuses on the effect the powder manufacturing methods on the nano and microscale properties of the yttrium oxide (Y2O3) clusters and the micro and macroscale effect of the differing powder quality. The response of each material to proton irradiation is characterised. The presentation will bring attention to the effect of powder quality on the properties of ODS structural materials for nuclear applications. |
