Abstract Scope |
Laser heating based in situ TEM provides an opportunity to perform many sintering experiments at extremely high temperatures, along with analogous creep experiments, which can provide new insights into the associated strain mechanisms. Experiments performed on various metals and ceramics suggest that densification kinetics are rate limited by disconnection nucleation kinetics rather than grain boundary diffusion. This talk will provide evidence for this claim. It will also explain why the disparate models produce similar isothermal results and how they differ in their temperature and stress dependencies. |
