Abstract Scope |
Commercial Grade B ZrB2 powder with carbon additions up to 1.5 wt% were fabricated by hot-pressing. Phenolic resin was used as carbon source, the char yield was measured prior mixing with ZrB2. Particle size of the starting powders was measured by laser light scattering method and further confirmed by SEM observation. Impurity elements contents were examined using inert gas-fusion method. The starting powders were hot-pressed at 2150℃ with a pressure of 32 MPa. Bulk densities were measured by Archimedes method. Morphology of the cross section was observed by SEM. EBSD was taken and the images were used for grain size calculation. Grain boundaries were observed using TEM to identify impurity phases. Finally, the effect of carbon content on thermal conductivity was also analyzed. |
