Presentation Title Er/Yb Co-doped Fully Transparent Yttrium-Lanthanum-Tellurite Glass-Ceramics for ~3 µm Emission

Abstract Scope Crystallization of glass is the most fundamental and cost-effective approach of designing a pore-free composite matrix manifesting prosperity of crystals in glass suitable for diverse photonic applications. Considering that, a low phonon energy, fully transparent TeO2-TiO2-Y2O3-La2O3-Al2O3 glass-ceramics has been fabricated through optimizing the concentration of Y2O3/La2O3. A simple dual-step heat-treatment process has been used for ceramization. Crystallization leads precipitation of Ln2Te6O15(Ln=La/Y) “anti-glass” crystallites in glass-ceramics, which initiate direct dopant ion inclusion into the crystallites replacing La/Y. Indistinguishable local-structure between “anti-glass” crystallites and residual glassy phase make the grain boundary diffused followed by complete transparency retention even with ~100nm crystallite size as evidenced from FE-SEM microstructure. Further, Er/Yb co-doped transparent glass-ceramics has been prepared that exhibit intense 2.76µm emission under 980nm excitation owing to effective energy transfer from Yb3+→Er3+. Moreover, this highly crystalline RE co-doped glass-ceramics has the potential to be used as tuneable solid state MIR laser gain medium.
