Abstract Scope In view of the Bayer process of alumina production technology itself is difficult to overcome two defects: one is the use of low-grade ore production of alumina is poor economy, the other is the discharge of a large number of alkaline red mud. Based on the idea of reconstructing dissolved ore phase, a new method of producing alumina by calcification transformation is proposed in this paper. The characteristics, advantages and disadvantages and economy of calcified carbonization, calcified biomass, calcified potassium alkali and chlorinated alkali solution were compared and analyzed. The availability of various calcified transformation red mud was compared, and the progress of laboratory research and industrial research on calcification transformation methods was analyzed comprehensively.
