Abstract Scope Foodborne pathogens are major public health concerns worldwide. A versatile, precise, and ease-of-operation pathogen bacteria detection can alleviate foodborne illness and reduce the clinical and financial burden. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) have shown great accomplishment in pathogen detection, but they meet the concerns of high expense, complicated processes, and cross-reactivity. In this research study, a multiplexed lateral flow assay is proposed to detect foodborne pathogens, S. Typhimurium and L. Monocytogenes, by using the inkjet printing technique to print the biotinylate aptameric ink in a precise pattern. Custom-designed gold-decorated polystyrene (PS-AuNPs) microparticles provide colorimetric signal enhancement and highest-affinity aptamers for S. Typhimurium and L. monocytogenes respectively are functionalized on the surface of the microparticles for capturing bacteria. The developed multiplexed colorimetric paper-based microfluidic device can perform on-site rapid screening of several pathogenic bacteria in real samples with the strength of accessibility, cost-effectivity, and high specificity.
